GHRI Senior Investigator David Grossman, MD, MPH, previously Group Health Medical Director for Preventive Care & Population Strategy, was announced in May as Executive Medical Director, Population & Purchaser Strategy, Health Plan. In his new role on the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Dr. Grossman will partner with Executive Vice President Bob O’Brien in the Health Plan Divisionandcontinueto be an important connection between purchasers and the medical group. The move puts three physicians on the Group Health ELT for the first time.
GHRI Assistant Investigator Karen J. Wernli, PhD, was invited to present at the Innovation Learning Network in May. The Network is composed of health care systems including Group Health, foundations, safety net providers, and design and tech companies, all working to improve care through good design. Dr. Wernli and collaborator Nikki Pfarr, MDes, of the Seattle design firm Artefact, co-presented about their work creating user-friendly decision aids for the SIMBA project. SIMBA (Surveillance Imaging Modalities for Breast Cancer Assessment) is Dr. Wernli’s study to help women who have been treated for breast cancer make informed decisions about post-treatment breast screening.
GHRI Assistant Investigator Andrea Hartzler, PhD, and colleague Rupa Patel, PhD, user experience researcher at GoDaddy, presented to the National Board of Medical Examiners in Philadelphia in April. Drs. Hartzler and Patel described Entendre, their project to use signal processing technology to capture nonverbal cues between patients and clinicians during a visit. The goal is to give clinicians feedback to enhance their ability to provide patient-centered care. Other collaborators are Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and Microsoft Research. Dr. Hartzler and Dr. Patel’s presentation included a two-minute demonstration video.
