Dr. Cara Lewis named top 10 in dissemination and implementation science
A new study that describes the growth of dissemination and implementation science in health has identified KPWHRI Associate Investigator Cara Lewis, PhD, as a leading researcher.
The July issue of Scientometrics features “Mapping the growing discipline of dissemination and implementation science in health,” in which Dr. Lewis is named a key influencer. Influencers were selected by peers using a combined roster-nomination method to indicate from whom they sought advice or with whom they collaborated.
The emergence of dissemination and implementation science as a field is critical: It informs the ways that research can be practically applied in real-world settings to help patients. The work of implementation scientists permeates fields, methodological domains, health/disease areas, and delivery settings.
In addition to her expertise in implementation science, Dr. Lewis specializes in evidence-based psychosocial interventions for improving mental and behavioral health. She is affiliate faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine. She is also president of the Society for Implementation Research Collaboration (SIRC), whose biennial conference made the list of most attended disseminations and implementation conferences in the last 3 years. Dr. Lewis is currently working with KPWHRI’s MacColl Center for Health Care Innovation.
Dr. Ed Wagner honored in IHI tribute
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) recently paid tribute to Ed Wagner, MD, MPH, founding director of KPWHRI and its MacColl Center for Health Care Innovation. Dr. Wagner retired in June after four decades of research and leadership aimed at improving health and health care for people everywhere. He is best known for developing and spreading the Chronic Care Model, a framework that’s now considered foundational for delivering high-quality, patient-centered primary care. The IHI tribute features personal reflections from several IHI leaders who worked with Dr. Wagner over the years and includes a video testimonial from former IHI president Don Berwick, MD, MPP.
