Three Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI) scientists presented at the 2017 AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting in New Orleans June 25–27. AcademyHealth is a national organization that focuses on health services research—the science that determines what works for health, for who, at what cost, and under what circumstances. It studies how our health systems works, how to support patients and providers in choosing the right care, and how to improve health through care delivery.
The 2018 Academy Health Research Meeting will be held in Seattle, June 24–26. Eric B. Larson, MD, MPH, Kaiser Permanente Washington vice president for research and health care innovation and KPWHRI executive director, will chair the meeting, which draws about 2,500 participants each year.
The University of California, Davis honored KPWHRI Senior Investigator Diana Miglioretti, PhD, in May with its annual 2017 School of Medicine Research Award for her outstanding contributions to breast cancer screening research. The school cited Dr. Miglioretti’s “broad clinical impact influencing national breast cancer screening and interpretation guidelines,” including her work that was central to the American Cancer Society’s decision to update its breast cancer screening guidelines in 2015.
In addition to her role at KPWRHI, Dr. Miglioretti is professor of biostatistics in the Department of Public Health Sciences at UC Davis School of Medicine.
KPWHRI Project Manager Heidi Berthoud, MPH, presented a poster at the World Congress on Endometriosis in Vancouver, B.C., May 17–20. The poster is titled “Dialogue for Shared Decision-Making: Patient Perspective in an Endometriosis CME Adapted for an Integrated Health Care Delivery System.” She also spoke at the June meeting of the Endometriosis Research Center’s Seattle Chapter on June 14.
