Simon receives HCSRN Founders' Award 

Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI) Senior Investigator Greg Simon, MD, MPH, was selected by the Board of Directors of the Health Care Systems Research Network (HCSRN) to receive the inaugural Founders' Award. 

The HCSRN is a national consortium of research centers associated with health care organizations, including Kaiser Permanente. The Founders’ Award is given for exemplifying the spirit of the HCSRN founders in service and contribution to the network. Nominees must have created something unique in embedded health care research, foster collegiality and collaboration across the HCSRN member organizations, and create legacy of funded resources for productive research in the HCSRN. Simon founded and leads the Mental Health Research Network within the HCSRN. 

Rosenberg presents at Society of Behavioral Medicine meeting

KPWHRI Senior Investigator Dori Rosenberg, PhD, MPH, spoke in March at the Society of Behavioral Medicine annual meeting in San Francisco. She presented on “12-month outcomes from the Healthy Aging Resources to Thrive (HART) Trial: Reducing sitting in older adults.” KPWHRI collaborators on the HART Trial were Weiwei Zhu, Mikael Anne Greenwood-HickmanAndrea Cook, David Arterburn, Bev Green, and Affiliate Investigator Jennifer McClure.

Williamson speaks at ENAR spring meeting

In March, Brian Williamson, PhD, KPWHRI assistant biostatistics investigator, gave an invited talk at the Eastern North American Region (ENAR) of the International Biometrics Society spring meeting in New Orleans. Williamson presented on “Assessing treatment effects in observational data with missing confounders: A comparative study of practical doubly-robust and traditional missing-data methods” as a part of the Invited Preliminary Program.

Hsu and Hansell present at Society for Applied Anthropology meeting

KPWHRI Associate Investigator Clarissa Hsu, PhD, and Collaborative Scientist Laurel Hansell, MA, MPH, spoke in March at the Society for Applied Anthropology annual meeting in Portland, Oregon. Their talk was titled “Using Rapid Group Analysis Process (Rap-GAP) to expedite qualitative data analysis for dissemination and implementation research: A hands-on workshop.” KPWHRI collaborators were Jess Mogk, Claire Allen, and Joe Glass.

Wernli co-chairs American Society for Preventive Oncology meeting 

In April, KPWHRI Senior Investigator Karen Wernli, PhD, co-chaired the 49th annual American Society for Preventive Oncology meeting in Philadelphia. She also co-moderated a session on “Unprecedented and uncertain times and lung cancer screening.” 

Brown and Ross present at HCSRN panels

Meagan Brown, PhD, MPH, KPWHRI assistant investigator, and Tyler Ross, MA, KPWHRI director of data programming and information technology, each gave panel presentations at the April 2025 HCSRN conference. Brown presented on “Building and implementing a social health research infrastructure in an integrated health care system” with colleagues from the Kaiser Permanente Social Needs Network for Evaluation and Translation (SONNET). In a panel led by former KPWHRI faculty member Sarah Greene, MPH, Ross spoke on “What can we learn from early adopters of the Learning Health System model to transform care and improve outcomes at a national scale?” with programmer colleagues from KPWHRI.
