Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI) Senior Investigator Katharine Bradley, MD, MPH, presented the keynote address for the University of Washington 2025 Integrated Care Conference in June. Her talk was titled "Integrated Alcohol Use Disorder Treatment.” In May, Bradley also served as a panelist for a virtual live forum titled “Alcohol: Is Any Amount Safe for Health?” that was hosted by the American College of Physicians and Annals of Internal Medicine. She and her co-panelists discussed clinical case scenarios involving alcohol consumption and answered questions submitted before the event.
KPWHRI Collaborative Scientist Claire Allen, MPH, was selected for a podium presentation on the theme of improving safety, quality, and value at the 2025 AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting in June. Allen shared results from Kaiser Permanente Washington’s Integrated Pain Management Program, which is led by KPWHRI’s Center for Accelerating Care Transformation (ACT Center). Her talk was titled “Reducing High-Dose Opioid Prescribing: Effectiveness of Patient-Centered Opioid Safety Committees,” and her coauthors included Jess Mogk, Yates Coley, Kara Cushing-Haugen, Carly Levitz, Emily Bourcier, Melissa Trapp Petty, Roy Pardee, and Paula Lozano.
In June, KPWHRI Associate Investigator Laura Harrington, PhD, MPH, organized and chaired a session at the 2025 Society for Epidemiologic Research meeting in Boston. The session was titled “Cardiovascular Health Across the Life Course: Determinants and Sequelae.”
Andrea Cook, PhD, KPWHRI senior biostatistics investigator, presented at the Grand Rounds for the National Institutes of Health Pragmatic Trial Collaboratory in May. Cook and her co-presenters shared results from the BackInAction trial in a talk titled “A Policy-Relevant Pragmatic Trial on Acupuncture Effectiveness for Low Back Pain in Older Adults: Clinical and Cost Outcomes and Lessons Learned.”
Bianca DiJulio, MHS, KPWHRI senior manager of the Survey Research Program and Communications, presented at the American Association of Public Opinion Research Conference in May. Her talk was titled “Exploring the Impacts of Incentive Changes During Fielding.” DiJulio also concluded her term serving on the association’s executive council as Membership and Chapter Relations Chair.

In March, the EUROGIN International Multidisciplinary HPV Congress featured a presentation by Beverly Green, MD, MPH, a KPWHRI senior investigator and Kaiser Permanente Washington physician. Green shared results from the ACT Center’s evaluation of a new self-collect screening program for HPV (human papillomavirus) at Kaiser Permanente Washington. Her talk was titled “Evaluation of a Population-Based Mailed and Opportunistic In-clinic HPV Self-sampling Program in a U.S Health System.” Her coauthors included Jess Mogk, Paula Lozano, Brandi Crawford-Gallagher, Hongyuan Gao, and Tara Beatty.
