Yates Coley, PhD, a Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI) associate biostatistics investigator, has been selected to serve on a committee for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The committee will be studying the mental health effects of exposure to toxic substances among veterans.
KPWHRI Associate Biostatistics Investigator Yu-Ru Su, PhD, was the lead author on a paper that was featured in the National Cancer Institute's 2023 Epidemiology and Genomics Research Program Highlights. The paper, "Validation of a genetic-enhanced risk prediction model for colorectal cancer in a large community-based cohort," was published in Cancer Epidemiology, Prevention & Biomarkers and used Kaiser Permanente Research Bank data in risk prediction for colorectal cancer.
Dori Rosenberg, PhD, MPH, KPWHRI senior scientific investigator, spoke to the University of Washington Health Promotion Research Center in February. Rosenberg spoke on the outcomes of a 6-month intervention to reduce sitting times in older adults from her Healthy Aging Resources to Thrive (HART) Trial. The trial results will also be reported in a peer-reviewed publication.
KPWHRI Senior Investigator Susan Shortreed, PhD, gave an invited seminar for the University of Washington Department of Biostatistics in February. Shortreed's talk was on "Developing risk prediction models for suicide prevention research," which is the topic of her recent paper comparing the performance of different statistical models for suicide risk prediction. Coauthors on the work are Rod Walker, Eric Johnson, Robert Wellman, Maricela Cruz, Rebecca Ziebell, Yates Coley, Robert Penfold, and Gregory Simon.
