Yates Coley, PhD, an associate biostatistics investigator at Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI), was recognized by the Puget Sound Business Journal as one of fourteen Health Care Heroes for 2024. The award, started in 2023, is given to "individuals who are going beyond their job descriptions to serve their communities." The honor recognizes work that improves personalized care across cultures and languages.
Coley also gave a keynote presentation in June at the Southeastern Pediatric Research Conference in Atlanta. The conference theme was about pediatric research in the digital age and Coley's talk was titled “AI in health care: Ensuring actionable insights and equitable implementation.”
In June, Laura Harrington, PhD, MPH, a KPWHRI assistant investigator, gave the Scientific Data Resources Forum for the Health Care Systems Research Network. Harrington's webinar covered her studies on venous thromboembolism that use rapid case ascertainment to accurately identify patients who experience a venous thromboembolism event to understand what triggers symptoms and how to follow up on events.
KPWHRI Assistant Biostatistics Investigator Brian Williamson, PhD, presented at the Western North American Region of the International Biometric Society meeting in Fort Collins, Colorado, in June. Williamson's talk was titled “Design considerations for subgroup analyses in cluster-randomized trials.”
In June, Julie Richards, PhD, MPH, KPWHRI assistant investigator, spoke at the Cultivating Integrated Care within the Behavioral Health Ecosystem conference from the University of Washington Integrated Care Training Program. Richards presented about a model of care to improve outcomes for substance use and suicide care. Her coauthor on the talk was former KPWHRI Research Associate Amy Lee, now a Kaiser Permanente Washington practice facilitator.
Senior Investigator Dori Rosenberg, PhD, MPH, continued her series of talks about the results of her Healthy Aging Resources to Thrive (HART) trial. In April, she spoke in Seattle to the Veterans Affairs (VA) Puget Sound Weight Matters Forum. In May, Rosenberg and KPWHRI Collaborative Scientist Mikael Anne Greenwood-Hickman, MPH, spoke to the Nutrition and Physical Activity Assessment Group at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center.
