Mangione-Smith gives pediatric association keynote
Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI) Executive Director and Senior Investigator Rita Mangione-Smith, MD, MPH, gave the keynote address at the Academic Pediatric Association Annual Quality Improvement Research Conference in Toronto, Canada. She spoke about knowing when scientific evidence is strong enough to justify changing clinical practice and establishing new care standards. As an example, she discussed a controversial topic in pediatric care: treating 2- to 5-year-olds hospitalized with acute respiratory illnesses and wheezing.
Arterburn gives keynote address at obesity medicine meeting
David Arterburn, MD, MPH, KPWHRI senior Investigator, gave the keynote presentation at the 2024 Obesity Medicine Association annual meeting in Denver in April. Arterburn's talk, “Paradigm Shifts and Price Wars: The Bright and Bumpy Future of Obesity Treatment,” explored the next 5 to 10 years of obesity treatment and the impact on clinicians of patients with obesity.
Brown presents on social needs screening
In May, Meagan Brown, PhD, MPH, KPWHRI collaborative scientist, spoke at the American Hospital Association Accelerating Health Equity Conference. Brown was a member of a panel on "So you screen your patients for social needs. What’s next?" She co-presented with Jenn Frost, a senior director of social health at Kaiser Permanente and leader of the Community Support Hub.
Richards speaks on suicide prevention
Julie Richards, PhD, MPH, assistant investigator at KPWHRI, gave a lecture in April at the University of California Merced. Her talk was titled “Suicide prevention in health care.”
Knerr speaks about patient navigation
KPWHRI Affiliate Investigator Sarah Knerr, PhD, MPH, gave the May seminar at the University of Washington Health Promotion Research Center. Her talk was titled "Evaluating a patient navigation intervention to improve receipt of genetic services in UW Medicine."
