Performance feedback was used to identify successes and gaps in care and measure response to improvement activities. Specific activities included weekly feedback on prevalence of screening, positive screens, and DSM-5 symptom checklists and review of national alcohol and other drug use disorder metrics (the latter not included below).
Practice facilitators offered expertise in behavioral health care, addressed stigma, encouraged patient-centered shared decision-making, and provided and/or arranged trainings to address all elements of behavioral health integration.
Electronic health record (EHR) decision support was developed to guide screening of patients for depression, unhealthy alcohol use, and past-year cannabis and/or other drug use and to offer further assessment and management of patients who screen positive.
