Leah Tuzzio presents on embedded research at AcademyHealth
Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI) Research Associate Leah Tuzzio, MPH, was among several health system research experts presenting an all-day pre-conference seminar titled “Essentials of Embedded Pragmatic Clinical Trials” at AcademyHealth’s Annual Research Meeting in Washington, DC, on Saturday, June 1. The Health Care Systems Research Collaboratory of the National Institutes of Health sponsored the seminar. Ms. Tuzzio serves as co-leader of the Collaboratory’s “Interaction Core,” along with Eric B. Larson, MD, MPH, executive director of KPWHRI and Kaiser Permanente Washington’s vice president for research and health care innovation.
David Arterburn shares bariatric surgery study results in Argentina
David Arterburn, MD, MPH, a senior investigator at KPWHRI, presented the results of his research on bariatric surgery at the Latin American Chapter Meeting of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders in Buenos Aires, Argentina, April 24-26. His presentations included his findings on the long-term results of bariatric surgery in patients with type 2 diabetes compared to medical treatment. He also presented results of the PCORnet Bariatric Study, a groundbreaking effort that involves patients from 41 health systems.
Ed Wagner delivers Eisele lecture at ACP meeting
Ed Wagner, MD, MPH, director emeritus of KPWHRI’s MacColl Center for Health Care Innovation, delivered the C. Wesley Eisele Lecture at the American College of Physicians’ Internal Medicine Meeting on April 10 in Philadelphia. His talk, “Practice Transformation Using the Chronic Care Model,” described health outcomes associated with the model in more than 20 years of research.
