KPWHRI researchers present at dissemination and implementation conference
KPWHRI was well represented at the AcademyHealth 12th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation in Health. The conference was in Arlington, VA in December. Presenters included Cara Lewis, PhD, KPWHRI associate investigator, and Katie Coleman, MSPH, director of the MacColl Center for Health Care Innovation, who chaired a panel on “Advancing the conversation on implementation science and quality improvement: Leaders working at the nexus.” Emily Williams, PhD, MPH, affiliate investigator, chaired a session on identification and treatment of opioid use disorder in primary care. Kathy Bradley, MD, MPH, senior investigator, and Julie Richards, PhD, MPH, research associate, presented on the Sustained Patient-centered Alcohol-Related Care (SPARC) trial. Dr. Richards won the Best Poster award for her presentation on supporting high-quality care for patients with suicide risk.
Ms. Hertel speaks to State Health Policy Workgroup
In December, Erin Hertel, MPA, gave a presentation to the National Academy for State Health Policy’s State Workgroup on Addressing Population Health through Accountable Health Models. With co-presenter Chase Napier, Medicaid transformation manager at the Washington State Health Care Authority, Ms. Hertel spoke on regional collaborations for health system transformation at NASHP’s Ms. Hertel is a senior evaluation and learning consultant for the Center for Community Health and Evaluation at KPWHRI.
Dr. Shortreed invited to present at NeurIPS
KPWHRI Senior Investigator Susan Shortreed, PhD, spoke at the 2019 Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems in Vancouver, Canada in December. Dr. Shortreed’s talk at the NeurIPS workshop was titled “’Do the right thing’: Machine learning and causal inference for improved decision making.”
Dr. Grossman invited to speak at Center for Health Innovation & Policy Science
David Grossman, MD, MPH, KPWHRI senior investigator and Kaiser Permanente Washington senior associate medical director of market strategy and public policy, was invited to give the monthly seminar at the University of Washington Center for Health Innovation & Policy Science in December. Dr. Grossman spoke on "Balancing stakeholder perspectives in evidence-based decision-making."
Dr. Arterburn’s papers named as Top Articles of 2019
When the editors-in-chief of Obesity journal chose their top 15 articles for 2019, they included two from David Arterburn, MD, MPH, KPWHRI senior investigator and Washington Permanente Medical Group physician. The papers were big-data studies that used electronic health records to analyze the safety and effectiveness or use of medications for obesity.
