KPWHRI team gives first presentation on new ACT data

In a first for the Adult Changes in Thought study, a Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute team showed results from sedentary behavior and physical activity data that are now being collected for ACT. The occasion was a symposium at the annual meeting of the Gerontological Society of America in November in Austin. Associate Investigator Dori Rosenberg, PhD, MPH, chaired the symposium and Senior Investigator Andrea LaCroix, PhD, co-chaired. Also presenting were Biostatistician Rod Walker, MS, and Project Manager Mikael Anne Greenwood-Hickman.

Dr. Mangione-Smith speaks on antibiotic resistance

Rita Mangione-Smith, MD, MPH, spoke in October at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Conference and Exhibition. Dr. Mangione-Smith is the executive director and a senior investigator at KPWHRI and vice president for research and health care innovation at Kaiser Permanente Washington. She presented at the AAP meeting on “How and why to be smart with antibiotic prescribing in primary care.”

Dr. Green invited to speak on colorectal cancer screening

In November, KPWHRI Senior Investigator and Washington Permanente Medical Group physician Bev Green, MD, MPH was an invited speaker at 2019 Colorectal Cancer Screening Round Table National Meeting in Baltimore. Dr. Green presented on financial incentives for increasing colorectal cancer screening in priority populations.

CCHE work featured at national evaluation conference

Members of the Center for Community Health and Evaluation presented at the American Evaluation Association annual conference in Minneapolis in November. CCHE presenters were featured in two sessions. Director Maggie Jones, with Senior Evaluation and Learning Consultants Emily Bourcier and Erin Hertel, presented on evaluation lessons for systems change initiatives with equity goals. Ms. Jones, with Senior Evaluation and Learning Consultant Lisa Schafer and Evaluation and Learning Associates Carly Levitz and Jennie Schoeppe, presented on using organizational capacity assessments to strengthen program design, technical assistance, and evaluation.

Dr. Gray presents at national anthropology conference

At the American Anthropology Association’s annual meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia in November, KPWHRI Assistant Investigator Marlaine Figueroa Gray, PhD chaired a panel that explored questions on human suffering. She also presented on her fieldwork and interviews with patients and providers about their experiences in early phase trials of novel cancer immunotherapies.

Dr. Dublin presents at two international conferences

This summer, KPWHRI Senior Investigator and Washington Permanente Medical Group physician Sascha Dublin, MD, PhD, spoke at two international meetings. In July, she presented on developing and validating a clinical tool called eRADAR (for “electronic health record risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia assessment rule”) at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference in Los Angeles. In August, she talked at the International Conference on Pharmacoepidemiology in Philadelphia about antihypertensive medication use in pregnancy.
