Dr. Wernli presents at World Health Organization agency
Karen Wernli, PhD, Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute associate investigator, was invited to speak at the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France, in October 2019. The IARC is the specialized cancer agency of the World Health Organization and Dr. Wernli spoke on “Lung cancer screening in the U.S. healthcare system.” Dr. Wernli will also give a presentation at the Kaiser Permanente Oncology meeting in Los Angeles in November.
Dr. Palazzo holds workshop and talk at clinical sociology meeting
Lorella Palazzo, PhD, KPWHRI research associate, held a workshop on program evaluation and gave a presentation on sociologists and anthropologists in health care settings at the Association for Applied and Clinical Sociology annual meeting in Portland, Oregon in October. Co-authors for her presentation were KPWHRI Assistant Investigators Nora Henrikson, PhD, MPH, and Marlaine Figueroa Gray, PhD, and user-centered design researcher Brooks Tiffany, MS.
KPWHRI researchers present on their addiction health services research
The October Addiction Health Services Research conference in Park City, Utah, featured presentations from a number of KPWHRI researchers. Senior Investigator Kathy Bradley, MD, MPH, gave advice for early career researchers; Research Interventionist Tessa Matson, MPH, presented on analysis of cannabis use that is documented in electronic health records in primary care patients. Dr. Bradley, with Research Associate Amy Lee, MPH, and Affiliate Researcher Emily Williams, PhD, MPH, VA Puget Sound Health Care System, talked about the Sustained Patient-centered Alcohol-Related Care (SPARC) randomized trial on implementing and maintaining alcohol-related primary care. Associate Investigator Joe Glass, PhD, MSW, gave two talks about patient perspectives on integrating digital treatments for alcohol or drug use disorders into primary care.
Dr. Larson and co-authors have most-cited paper
The most cited paper in the Journal of the American Medical Association Internal Medicine for the past three years is by Eric B. Larson, MD, MPH and collaborators. Dr. Larson is a senior investigator at KPWHRI and former executive director. The JAMA IM paper is “A Comparison of the Prevalence of Dementia in the US in 2000 & 2012.” Other authors are Dr. Eileen Crimmins, University of Southern California, and from the University of Michigan, Drs. Jessica Faul, Deborah Levine, and Mohammed Kabeto, with first author Kenneth Langa and senior author David Weir.
