Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute Research Associate Leah Tuzzio, MPH, has been invited to join the Advanced Human-Centered Design @ KP Program. Ms. Tuzzio will work remotely in this certificate program with the regional manager of Family and Patient-centered Care and others at Kaiser Permanente Northwest on a project related to improving primary care access. The program aims to “spread human-centered design methods and mindsets throughout Kaiser Permanente.”
David Grossman, MD, MPH, KPWHRI senior investigator, has two new roles: Kaiser Permanente Washington Senior Medical Director for Community Health and External Relations and Kaiser Permanente National Senior Medical Director for Community Health. In these positions, Dr. Grossman will oversee regional community health strategy and help define and drive the national Kaiser Permanente community health agenda.
KPWHRI Senior Investigator and Director of Research, Faculty & Development Jennifer McClure, PhD, was elected to be the secretary/treasurer for the Society for Research on Nicotine & Tobacco. Dr. McClure’s 3-year term starts in March.
In January, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine released a new report: “Leading Health Indicators 2030: Advancing Health, Equity, and Well-Being.” KPWHRI Senior Investigator Eric B. Larson, MD, MPH, was 1 of 2 lead reviewers on the report, which contributes to the Healthy People 2030 initiative to set national goals for health promotion and disease prevention.
In January, Greg Simon, MD, MPH, KPWHRI senior investigator, spoke on “Pragmatic Clinical Trials: How Do I Start?” for the National Institutes of Health Living Textbook Grand Rounds Series. Dr. Simon co-presented with Lesley H. Curtis, PhD, Duke University School of Medicine. A recording will be available at the NIH Collaboratory Grand Rounds website.
In January, KPWHRI Senior Investigator David Arterburn, MD, MPH spoke for a webinar from the National Business Group on Health. With William Dietz, MD, Dr. Arterburn presented on “Barriers to effective obesity care and the road forward,” including ways that employers can align benefit coverage with evidence.

Dr. Grossman was on the panel “Getting our hands around total cost of care.” KPWHRI Adjunct Researcher and Washington Permanente Medical Group Director of Adolescent Health Services Gina Sucato, MD, MPH, spoke at a panel about schools and care coordination and delivery.
