Dr. Green discusses structural racism and hypertension
In October, Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute Senior Investigator Beverly B. Green, MD, MPH, gave the wrap-up statements at a virtual panel discussion of the 4th Annual University of Utah Translational Hypertension Symposium and Early-Stage Investigator Workshop. The session with Dr. Green and other prominent hypertension researchers addressed structural racism and hypertension morbidity and mortality.
Dr. Wernli speaks at cancer symposium
KPWHRI Associate Investigator Karen J. Wernli, PhD, spoke at the fall 2020 virtual symposium of the Cancer Informatics for Cancer Centers. Ci4CC is a nonprofit society providing a forum for National Cancer Institute Designated & Community Cancer Centers focused on topics such as data science, healthcare IT, and translational research. Dr. Wernli presented on using national claims data to inform oncology for adolescents and young adults, particularly for end-of-life care.
Dr. Larson speaks on dementia and caregiving
In October, Eric B. Larson, MD, MPH, KPWHRI senior investigator and former executive director and vice president for research and health care innovation of Kaiser Permanente Washington, gave a Grand Rounds presentation to the National Institute on Aging Impact Collaboratory. Dr. Larson spoke about the 2020 Lancet Commission report on dementia prevention, interventions, and care. He is also chairing a National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine committee on care interventions for individuals with dementia and their caregivers.
Dr. Lee presents on ACT research
KPWHRI Affiliate Researcher Cecilia Lee, MD, MS, presented at the annual symposium of the Alcon Research Institute in October. Dr. Lee spoke about “Studying the Aging Brain through Aging Eyes,” which is part of the long-running Adult Changes in Thought study, a joint project of KPWHRI and the University of Washington. Dr. Lee leads ACT work on eye diseases and risk of dementia.
