Dr. Gray speaks at anthropology graduation: Watch here
Marlaine Figueroa Gray, PhD, gave the commencement address at the University of Washington Anthropology Department’s online graduation celebration. Dr. Gray, who is a KPWHRI assistant investigator, gave the “Alumnae Words of Wisdom” to the graduating class of 260 earning an undergraduate degree and as many as 10 who were awarded a PhD. Her 7-minute talk is available on YouTube.
Dr. Henrikson leads award-winning report
A report from the KPWHRI site of the Kaiser Permanente Research Affiliates Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) won the 4th annual Dr. Robert Lewis Kane Service Award. The award from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality is for a report of notable relevance, clarity, and conciseness. KPWHRI Assistant Investigator Nora Henrikson, PhD, MPH, who is EPC site principal investigator, is lead author on the report about behavioral counseling for skin cancer prevention. Dr. Henrikson presented the results in person to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. KPWHRI co-authors are Research Associate Paula Blasi, MPH, Matt Nguyen, and Caitlin Morrison, MPH. The KPRA EPC is headquartered in Portland, OR, directed by Jennifer S. Lin, MD, MCR.
Dr. Richards presents to Bree Collaborative
In June, KPWHRI Research Associate Julie Richards, PhD, MPH, spoke about integrating suicide care into primary care at the Bree Collaborative Behavioral Health Implementation Summit online. The Dr. Robert Bree Collaborative, established by the Washington State legislature, uses input from experts like Dr. Richards to develop health care recommendations and guidelines.
Drs. DeBar and Bradley featured at NIH workshop
KPWHRI Senior Investigators Lynn DeBar, PhD, MPH, and Kathy Bradley, MD, MPH, presented at a 2-day workshop in June for the National Institutes of Health. The focus of the workshop was opioid use disorders, pain, and other behavioral health comorbidities.
Drs. Carrell and Larson present to National Academies
Two KPWHRI investigators presented to the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine in June. David Carrell, PhD, KPWHRI assistant investigator, and Eric B. Larson, MD, MPH, senior investigator, former executive director, and former Kaiser Permanente Washington vice president for research and health care innovation, spoke to the standing committee advising the Social Security Administration on its disability programs.
Dr. DeBar speaks about pragmatic clinical trials
Lynn DeBar, PhD, MPH, presented in June at Grand Rounds for the National Institutes of Health Collaboratory. The topic was “Advances at the Intersection of Digital Health, Electronic Health Records, and Pragmatic Clinical Trials: Experiences from the Collaboratory PCTs” and Dr. DeBar spoke about her Pain Program for Active Coping & Training (PPACT) study.
