Dr. Larson and Ms. Tuzzio interviewed about pragmatic trials

KPWHRI Senior Investigator Eric B. Larson, MD, MPH, and Research Associate Leah Tuzzio, MPH, were interviewed for the National Institutes of Health Collaboratory Living Textbook of Pragmatic Clinical Trials. Dr. Larson chairs the Collaboratory’s Health Care Systems Interactions Core. He and Ms. Tuzzio spoke about how the Core is supporting demonstration projects. 

Dr. Yeung named Butler-Williams Scholar

KPWHRI Assistant Investigator Kai Yeung, PharmD, PhD, was selected to participate in the 2020 Butler-Williams Scholars Program (formerly known as the Summer Institute on Aging Research), sponsored by the National Institute on Aging. The program provides junior faculty who are new to aging research with insights into the field, including advice on developing research interests and. 

Dr. Wernli to attend NIH training programs

Karen Wernli, PhD, KPWHRI associate investigator, was accepted into 2 competitive training programs from the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Wernli will participate in the 2020 Multilevel Intervention Training Institute from the National Cancer Institute and the Summer Institute on Randomized Behavioral Clinical Trials from the NIH Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research in collaboration with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. 

Dr. Henrikson co-chairs behavioral medicine group

KPWHRI Assistant Investigator Nora Henrikson, PhD, MPH, is starting a 2020-2023 term as co-chair of the Evidence-Based Behavioral Medicine Special Interest Group for the Society of Behavioral Medicine. Dr. Henrikson has been a member of the society since 2012 and participates in its Special Interest Groups for Cancer and for Theories and Techniques of Behavior Change Intervention. 

Distinguished Investigator award to Dr. Miglioretti

The Association for Clinical and Translational Science gave its Distinguished Investigator: Translation into Public Benefit and Policy Award to Diana Miglioretti, PhD. Dr. Miglioretti is a KPWHRI senior investigator and dean’s professor of biostatistics at University of California, Davis. She received the award in April as part of the virtually held Translational Science 2020 meeting. In connection with the award, Dr. Miglioretti made a one-minute video about her work. 

Dr. Lisa Jackson presents to WA Health Alliance

For a Washington Health Alliance webinar in April, KPWHRI Senior Investigator Lisa Jackson, MD, MPH, presented about her team’s work on the KPWHRI trial of a vaccine against the virus that causes COVID-19.. Dr. Jackson, who is also a Washington Permanente Medical Group physician, is leading the trial, which was the first in the nation to be approved for testing by the National Institutes of Health. 

Seattle design webinar features Dr. Wernli

On May 1, KPWHRI Associate Investigator Karen Wernli, PhD, presented in a webinar hosted by Artefact, a Seattle strategy and design firm that collaborated on Dr. Wernli’s breast cancer research. The webinar was part of a Design for Healthcare series and Dr. Wernli spoke about adapting clinical design principles for public health issues.​​​​​​​ 

Dr. Larson presents at National Academies workshop

On April 15 2020, the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine held a virtual public workshop from the Committee on Care Interventions for Individuals with Dementia and Their Caregivers. KPWHRI Senior Investigator Eric B. Larson, MD, MPH, was one of the expert speakers about care interventions that are ready for broad-scale dissemination and implementation. KPWHRI Affiliate Researcher Linda Teri, PhD, was also a speaker.

KPWHRI abstracts for HCSRN now available

Many KPWHRI researchers had abstracts accepted for the Annual Conference of the Health Care Systems Research Network. Although the April conference was cancelled, the Journal of Patient-Centered Research and Review made all abstracts for accepted posters and oral presentations freely available. The next HCSRN conference will be in 021 in Denver.
