In February, KPWHRI Research Associate Leah Tuzzio, MPH presented to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Living Textbook Grand Rounds Series on preparing for pragmatic clinical trials. Ms. Tuzzio spoke about conducting pragmatic research in real-world contexts with co-presenters Vincent Mor, PhD, Brown University, and Jerry Jarvik, MD, MPH, University of Washington. KPWHRI Senior Investigator Michael Parchman, MD, MPH,, led a team from the MacColl Center for Health Care Innovation in updating the toolkit for the Six Building Blocks approach to improving management of patients with chronic pain who take opioid therapy. The resources are available through the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
For the Prevention Science and Methodology Group from Northwestern University, KPWHRI Associate Investigator Cara Lewis, PhD, held Virtual Grand Rounds in February. Her topic was implementation mechanisms—the processes through which strategies work—and developing an implementation mechanisms research agenda.
Senior Investigator Michael Parchman, MD, MPH, was invited to chair the Value Based Healthcare Congress in February in Las Vegas, NV. In opening remarks, Dr. Parchman talked about working with delivery system partners such as Kaiser Permanente Washington. In a separate session, he presented about essential skills for clinical value champions.
