Dr. Grossman to co-lead Kaiser Permanente Community Health
David Grossman, MD, MPH, has a new role with the national Kaiser Permanente organization: interim senior vice president for the Kaiser Permanente Office of Community Health. Dr. Grossman is currently Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute senior investigator, Kaiser Permanente Washington senior associate medical director for community health and external relations, and Kaiser Permanente senior medical director for community health. In his new role, he will be co-leading the national Office of Community Health with Stephanie Ledesma, MS, who is currently Kaiser Permanente vice president for community health operations. Dr. Grossman, a former member and chair of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, has been with Kaiser Permanente Washington since 2004, when it was Group Health Cooperative. He is a Washington Permanente Medical Group pediatrician whose research has focused on improving preventive care, injury prevention and control, and Native American health disparities.

Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute (KPWHRI) has a new leader of grants and contracts administration. Marilou Hemenway, MBA, accepted our offer to be our director of grants administration. She joins KPWHRI from Stanford University, where she was director of research financial reporting in the Office of Research Administration. Welcome, Marilou!
Dr. Carrell speaks at FDA Sentinel seminar
David Carrell, PhD, KPWHRI associate investigator, presented at the first Sentinel Innovation and Methods Seminar of 2021. Sentinel is the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's national system for monitoring the safety of its regulated medical products including drugs, vaccines, and medical devices. Dr. Carrell spoke on electronic health records, natural language processing, and machine learning to improve Sentinel detection methods.

KPWHRI Senior Investigators Lisa A. Jackson, MD, MPH, and David Grossman, MD, MPH, participated in the virtual event, “Cascadia's life sciences leading in the global fight against COVID-19.” The occasion was a Cascadia Innovation Corridor Forum, which brings together business, academic, and government leaders, including in Washington state and Canada, to discuss collaboration to strengthen the region as an international innovation hub. Dr. Jackson was a speaker. Dr. Grossman, who is Kaiser Permanente Washington Senior Medical Director for Community Health and External Relations and Kaiser Permanente National Senior Medical Director for Community Health, co-hosted.
